Prerequisite: Child Growth and Development and instructor recommendation.


Students participating in the Curriculum and Methods of Teaching II will need to apply their learning about child growth and development. In this class, students will explore the basic elements of curriculum design, assessing for learning, and current research-based strategies in instruction. Students will have the opportunity to design lessons and implement them with both elementary and middle school-age students. During these field experiences, students will work closely with a cooperating teacher to assist with the daily operations of the school. Learning in this course will focus on a successful understanding of lesson/unit planning, differentiating instruction, special education, mindful practices, and observation skills.  Students will present evidence of successful units taught for their professional portfolios. 


Students participating in the Curriculum and Methods of Teaching III will develop units and lesson plans for implementation in internship sites. Class time focuses on reflective skills and assessing successful teaching. This seminar approach focuses on collaborative discussions with students, increasing their capacity in self-reflection, goal setting, communication skills, time management, problem-solving, organizational skills, flexibility/open-mindedness, and writing skills.
